Dr Kilian Anheuser studied chemistry and art history in Germany, followed by a doctorate in science-based archaeology at Oxford University (1996). After a postdoctoral research project at Berlin State Museums (1997) he was appointed as Lecturer in conservation science at the School of History and Archaeology, Cardiff University, UK (1998 – 2003). In 2003 he moved to Switzerland to become Head of Conservation at the Musée d’art et d’histoire in Geneva.
He joined Geneva Museum of Ethnography as Curator in charge of preventive conservation and took up a post as Head scientist at FAEI Fine Arts Expert Institute, a private laboratory for the scientific examination of paintings and other works of art, in 2010 where he became company director in 2015. With more than 20 years experience in conservation science and the scientific analysis of works of art his main research interests are in the fields of authenticity studies of paintings and the preventive conservation of collections.
