Alexis de Tiesenhausen is the Head of International Department of Russian Art at Christie’s. Mr Tiesenhausen is responsible for cataloging all Faberge works and works of Russian decorative art at Christie’s in London and New York. Mr Tiesenhausen works at Christie’s auction house for more than 25 years and is the leading expert in the field of Russian art at international art market. Alexis started his career at Christie’s in London in 1985, and in 1991 he became the head of Russian Art department of Christie’s.
During the whole history of his work at Christie’s, Mr Tiesenhausen was working with the prominent collections of the Russian art which were at Christie’s auction. For example, in 1985 in Geneva he was managing the Faberge Clore collection, in November 1994 Alexis was cataloging the Faberge Imperial Winter egg. Besides, Mr Tiesenhausen took part in the successful sale of Faberge collection belonging to George Cazan at New York Christie’s auction in April 1997. He also entered into preliminary agreement on auction of Imperial collection of Easter Faberge eggs with Tatyana Faberge, Lynett Proler, and Valentin Skurlov. One of the brightest moments of the activity of Alexis de Tiesenhausen was the successful sale of Faberge egg from Rothschild’s collection, which reached the new price record of USD18.5mln during the sale in 2007.
